The Magnet PU is a funboard shape for weekend warriors appreciating PU and glass construction and vintage surfing style in general.
Based on our best-selling funboard shape, the Magnet benefits from a PU (polyurethane) core, adding some weight that translates to more hold in hollow waves, and a more composed riding character.
Bottom: Single to V
Ideal waves: 1-6ft
Level: Beginner – Expert
A stunning combination of style and performance, the Magnet is one of the most popular shapes in the NSP range, built-in classic PU & glass construction, available in the clear coat, sky blue, or Sunburst design.
The 6mm stringer doesn’t just look pleasing, it also improves the strength and rigidity of the board. A satin rub finish differentiates its look from more conventional designs.
A semi-rounded nose with a low entry rocker design puts more volume upfront, giving you more paddle power to catch waves early and easily.
The domed deck profile allows a forgiving but sensitive rail feel, while the rounded pintail is pulled in, adding control in bottom turns and cutbacks. The concave bottom creates a fast water transition through to the tail – providing balance and control in a range of conditions.
Magnet fin cluster & construction
In addition to the 8″ single fin that the Magnet comes out-of-the-box with, the five-fin cluster on the tail section that’s Futures compatible offers plenty of tuning options. Combine the 8” center fin with side bites or go quad on average-to-smaller days. Keep the thruster setup for the bigger days when conditions allow for committed turns.
|Length||Width||Thickness||Volume||Weight +/- 5%|
|6'8"||21"||2 ⁵/⁸"||42.1 Liters||4.43 Kg|
|7'2"||21 ¹/²"||2 ³/⁴"||49 Liters||4.89 Kg|
|7'6"||21 ³/⁴"||2 ⁷/⁸"||54.4 Liters||5.23 Kg|
These have long been the standard for most brands and is the most widely and affordable option still out there. Due to the core’s density, a Magnet will sit a little lower in the water than a Protech or Elements Funboard. But this helps to keep your rail under, giving you a nice “knifey” feel when slicing through the wave’s face.
Being a touch heavier also helps them to handle choppy conditions better and are less prone to being bounced around. Sitting lower in the water also has its benefits to barrel riding, providing more hold in hollow waves.
Adding to the vintage character is the single fin setup, although the Magnet has a very complete fin cluster on the tail section and that’s Futures compatible, allowing you to ride quad, thruster, and any other combination you would like to try out. Out of the box, however, the Magnet comes with a standard 8″ fin.
